Day 8 - July 14
Arbroath Abbey, HMS Unicorn, Saint Andrews,Â
Arbroath Abbey was consecrated in 1197 and played a key role in the Wars of Scottish Independence in 1320 when the Declaration of Arbroath was signed that asserted Scotland's independence from England. The abbey saw many visitors, most notably Robert the Bruce. It sadly fell into decline in the 16th century and became a quarry for building stone in the centuries since.
Next up was the HMS Unicorn in Dundee. Built for the Royal Navy and launched in 1824. The ship is a rare survivor from the days of sail, one of the six oldest ships in the world and Scotland's only representative of the sailing navy
Next up was Saint Andrews. We had a group head to the seaside, a group go into the castle, and another group continue to explore the town.
