FAQ

Do I need a Passport to attend the Scottish Jamborette?

Absolutely YES. We will be leaving the United States and traveling to Scotland. The United Kingdom will not allow your entry without a valid United States Passport.

When should I begin getting my passport?

Right now! Passports take a minimum of 3 months from the time you submit your application until you receive the document. Delaying this step may cause you to NOT be able to travel to Scotland with the Contingent. Please note that it is the responsibility of the Scout's family to secure their own passport. Cancellations due to a failure to procure a passport may include the loss of paid funds to the Contingent if we are still required to pay for your Scout even though they can not attend.

Do I need to purchase gear like for a National Jamboree?

In short, no and yes. The Jamborette is an opportunity for the Scots to showcase their Scouting program to the world. As such, they will provide tents, tarps, seating, tables, etc. for our Scouts. However, our Contingent usually purchases some items for the trip. These include shirts, hats, a jacket, a polar fleece, etc. These items are voted upon by the members of the Contingent and are delivered to the members before we leave for the trip.

Can I bring as much gear as I want?

There is no reason to pack anything other than your "personal kit" which includes a appropriate sleeping bag, eating hardware, and appropriate clothing. Please see the Suggesting Packing List on the MORE INFO sheet for more details.

I'm a parent who wants to go on this trip... can I?

The best answer to this question is, 'we don't know.' Historically, the Jamborette has limited adult volunteers to 2-adults for every 6-Scouts. In 2022 there weren't enough adults necessary to properly staff the events so they eased the restriction. We won't know the answer to this until more details emerge from the organizers of the event.

Please note that if you are selected to join the Contingent that this is an official BSA event and we are following every one of BSA's guidelines for safety. You will be required to be a registered adult complete with a background check and up-to-date YPT.
