2022 Contingent
The 2022 Scottish International Patrol Jamborette was held between July 19th and 29th, 2022, at Blair Castle, Blair Atholl, Perthshire, Scotland. There were about 800 Scouts and 300 leaders attending the event, including equal numbers of Scots and Scouts from 15 other countries. Our contingent included nine Scouts from different troops around the Baltimore Area Council, BSA, in Maryland, with four leaders - Jim Ryan, Shannon Ryan, Andrew Huppert, and Christina Herring.
Our 2022 tour of Scotland was different than past excursions for a number of reasons. Coming out of COVID, we weren't even sure we would be allowed to travel due to safety restrictions. We spent most of 2021 hoping we could attend and that it wouldn't be cancelled like in 2020. Another change was that our touring (outside of the Jamborette) occurred after, not before, the Jamborette. We arrived in Scotland and spent two days in Edinburgh before heading to Blair Atholl. At the conclusion of the Jamborette, we spent four days touring around Scotland before heading to London. We started our trip from Blair Atholl, home of the Jamborette, and headed north to Inverness where we used a hotel as the home base for our visit. We spent time in Inverness exploring the city, procuring kilts, and just being touristy after having spent the last two weeks camping. From Inverness, we traveled through Eilean Donan and up to Portee in on the Isle of Skye. Once our visit to Inverness was complete, we traveled by train back down through Edinburgh all the way to London. We spent a number of days there touring the sights within the city, experiencing some of the unique entertainment offerings and finally a blowout dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe before hopping on a plane to head home.
