Day 1&2 - July 7&8
Travel from Baltimore, Maryland to Edinburgh, Scotland
As with any excursion, everyone needed to arrive early to the airport to make sure we got through security, to our gate, and then locate some dinner. Of course there was the obligatory pictures and then we were off!
Like the last trip, we traveled from Baltimore to Heathrow Airport (just outside London). This time we encountered two changes: 1) our flight out of BWI was delayed due to incoming storms and (thankfully) our layover in London was about 1/4 the length it was in 2022. Although our layover was shorter than last time, it was the standard 2-hour length of time that gave the Scouts just enough time to relax, play on their phones, and explore the terminal shops. Soon enough, we were on our second flight to Edinburgh. We managed to brave the American TSA, British body searches, and more Scottish mini-terrier sniffing than we care to admit, but eventually we made it to the 104th NE Edinburgh (Goldenacre) Scout Group in Leith. After travelling for so long, the Scouts wanted to get out and walk, so the decision was made to visit the local market (a mile away) by foot to pick up food. Everyone found something to enjoy and the peaceful walk was a perfect punctuation to a successful day.
